day one or two?

Well, we made it! Not sure whether to consider this day one or day two. Yesterday we flew out of manchester, leaving at 5.55, having had maybe two hours sleep!! Still the acting the night before that went down a storm, daahling! It was half-way through the Amsterdam to Buenos Aires leg that i started started feeling anxious about forgetting things and rightly so as I'd left the Argentinian and chilean currency behind!!! It seems that I've also left 1/2 a course of antibiotics at home...good start!
As a result of forgetting the currency we had to queue at the airport for 45 minutes (just enough time to miss 2 buses into town) - there were only 6 people ahead of us in the queue! Still we'd already waited at immigration and customs for about an hour.
We finally got to our hotel at about 11.30p.m.-just a little knackered. The hotel itself is rather interesting being 'themed'. Each room has a theme and contains a mural. Around the hotel there is a range of mannequins/waxwork figures that can catch you unawares. The first couple of times i came out of the room i was startled by the figure of Evita staring down at me from the top of the stairs. We met a couple of other figures over breakfast - more on that and pictures to match later!

We ventured out by about 11.00 this morning and managed to orientate ourselves but didn't handle first approaches very well! We got our first (short) glimpse of San Telmo and its market area, where the street tango takes place on Sundays. We also strolled up to Plaza de Mayo and saw the Casa Rosada (imagine Peron on the balcony!). The other feature was the number of times Fuerza Cristina! (as in Kirchener) was sprayed on pavements, roads and walls. The new Evita!!!

The biggest challenge was crossing roads. The whole place is planned like a grid (which led to a spectacular, if uniform, sight when coming into land last night!) and you always have to look all ways when crossing at a crossroads. However, as with all grid systems, orientation is relatively easier once you get your East-West & Nrth-South sorted.

We've seen our first bit of street tango. However, it was just to promote a show. Nevertheless, it attracted a big crowd. This was along Florida, an actual bit of pedestrianisation in a city bursting with traffic. Lots f people have picked us out as tourists and tried to get us into their tango show - we'll go but pick our own place and time. The hotel has a helpful folder full of this kind of information.

As I speak, Arsenal vs Olympique Marseille is showing on one of the devil's stations (Fox Sport). The commentator is getting very excited but I don't know why! And, just to lay everyone's fears to rest I CAN receive Crewe Alexandra World!!!!!!!!!

We'll leave it there but I'll be back - with some photos!
